In the vicinity of Bordeaux, the beautiful town of Saint-Emilion is remarkable in many ways and has been distinguished as a Unesco World Heritage site in 1999. Its vineyards have been in activity since mediaval times and they shape much of the surrounding landscape that gives Saint-Emilion its unique personnality, its wines are nowadays renowned as some of the finest in the world.

Wine, vineyards and wine domains are far from being the only attraction, since Saint-Emilion's long existence has endowned it with many iconic landmarks and architectural sites, reflecting different periods of its rich history.

Arcachon Bay

The Arcachon Bay is not only one of France's main oyster production sites, it is also a unique maritime space where people come to enjoy a day at the beach by the splendid blue waters, a bike tour along the coast, a stroll in the surrounding villages or, of course, some freshly fished seafood.

Enjoying a pleasant microclimate, the Bay is also home to a vast biodiversity, many species of fish, birds and other wildlife thriving in this exceptionnal natural habitat.

Dune of Pilat

Also know as Dune of Pyla, this is the largest sand dune in Europe (which is, of course, not very renowned for sand dunes) and cumulates an impressive amount of 55 millions cubic meters of sand. This geological landmark is also a unique natural ecosystem.

It is a popular attraction as it offers a splendid viewpoint on the Bay of Arcachon and a beautiful walk between land and sea.
