Code of Conduct
EGMO 2026 Code of Conduct
EGMO 2026 aims to inspire girls to take part in national and international mathematics competitions and to offer more opportunities for mathematical development. It provides a platform to highlight young female mathematicians on the global stage, helping them meet peers, build meaningful connections, and experience cultural exchange with teenagers from around the world. It encourages young women to pursue careers in science.
The purpose of this Code of Conduct (CoC) is to describe the expected standards of behavior during EGMO 2026.
Scope
This CoC applies to all EGMO activities, including but not limited to:
- the mathematics competition itself, including jury meetings,
coordination, and problem discussions
- all activities such as meals, excursions, and arrival and departure
periods
- communication before, during, and after EGMO, including social media
Responsibility
All attendees, contestants, speakers, coordinators, leaders, deputy leaders, observers, organizers, volunteers, and members of the EGMO Board of Directors (collectively referred to as “Participants” in this document) involved in EGMO activities as described above must comply with this CoC.
Sponsors are also subject to this CoC. In particular, sponsors must not use images, activities, or materials that reinforce gender stereotypes or that are sexual, racial, or otherwise offensive. Booth staff, including volunteers, must not create a sexualized environment.
Unacceptable Behavior
EGMO 2026 is committed to providing an experience free from harassment, bullying, discrimination, and retaliation. This includes offensive comments related to gender, gender identity or expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), politics, nationality, technology choices, or any other personal characteristic protected by law.
Behavior that interferes with another participant’s full participation will not be tolerated. This includes bullying, intimidation, personal attacks, harassment, repeated disruption of talks or events, sexual harassment, stalking, following, intrusive photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual attention, public vulgar exchanges, derogatory name-calling, or belittling language. Encouraging or supporting such behavior is also considered harassment.
Images, activities, or materials that are sexual, racial, or otherwise offensive and that could create a hostile or inappropriate environment are not permitted.
Because contestants are minors and may be under significant stress,
all participants must show particular care, respect, and restraint in
their interactions with them. Any physical contact (for example placing
a medal around the neck, shaking hands, hugging, or air-kissing) may
only occur with the contestant’s explicit consent. Any form of sexual
attention toward contestants is strictly forbidden.
EGMO also follows applicable child-protection and safeguarding laws and
regulations.
Reporting
If you have concerns related to your participation or interactions at EGMO, notice someone else experiencing difficulties, or wish to report any issue, you may do so at any time by emailing egmo2026@animath.fr or by speaking in person with an organizer or a member of the EGMO Board.
Reports will be handled as confidentially as possible, and information will be shared only with those who need it to assess and address the situation.
There is no deadline for submitting a report.
Enforcement
Any participant asked to stop unacceptable behavior by a member of the community is expected to comply immediately. Saying “just joking” is not an acceptable response; behavior may be harmful even without intent to offend.
If a participant violates this CoC, EGMO organizers may take any action they consider appropriate, including but not limited to:
- Formal or informal warnings
- Restricting or ending participation, including removal from the
event
- Barring participation in future EGMO or Animath events
The same measures may be taken against anyone who retaliates against
a reporter or knowingly makes a false report of harassment.
If action is taken, an appeals process will be available.
